This is the first case study I’ve ever done and where my journey in UI/UX design started. The Instagram Events concept was developed after conducting user research and analyzing the problem space and possible solutions with affinity diagram and SWOT analysis. The feature is designed with two types of users: event browsers and hosts. Instagram events allow users to discover a variety of events around them, and they can also see how many of their friends are interested in them. As hosts, users can set the event to be either public or private and make their own guest list. This project was done back in 2019, so some of its UI could be outdated now. Nevertheless, I appreciate my effort back them and it’s interesting to see my progress. I would definitely hope to fix some parts in user flow and layout when time permits.

Case Study

People want to see what their friends are up to and business accounts want to reinforce group connections, but they have a hard time because posts and explore don’t always pop up the selected contents that they want to see and they always miss out on what they actually care about.

 Future Work

This case study still has a lot that I need to work on. The user flow is definitely not complete. Event hosts need a page to curate their guest list and where it shows them people’s response to their invites. Event explorers also need more differentiations of a private event before and after accepting the invitation. The event exploring page could be better categorized using vertical scroll to keep the consistency with the rest of the app. More iterations are needed to display the individual event page to further distinguish it from other features in the app, otherwise users could get confused about which part of the app they are at. A home screen notification of the event is also needed to remind users and maybe even an integration with users’ calendar app.
